 What is VMGuard?

VMGuard sits between the internet and your existing mailserver. It scans all incoming and outgoing mail for viruses and banned attachments. If any mail is found to contain a virus or a banned attachment it will be quarantined and a notification email will be sent to the mail administrator, the recipient of the original mail, and if appropriate, the sender of the mail. For added protection, it can be configured to use more than one virus scanning engine. Why do I need VMGuard?

With the global increase in the use of email as the preferred means of business communications it has naturally become a target for virus writers. Unfortunately, this dependence on email leaves many businesses vulnerable to the ever increasing numbers of viruses which targets email as a means of propagation. Even a single virus infection can have potentially devastating consequences: Lost productivity | A user is not being productive whilst waiting for their computer to be cleared of viruses. | Lost opportunity | Whilst the computer is being cleaned, the data on it cannot be accessed. | Lost business data | A malicious virus has the potential to delete files which may contain essential business data. Data without which a company cannot function. |
 How does VMGuard work?

VMGuard operates in one of two modes — VMGuard Gateway and VMGuard Standalone.
VMGuard Gateway works in conjunction with an existing mailserver. All incoming mail are scanned for viruses before they are passed onto the mailserver. All outgoing mail from the mailserver are scanned and will be rejected if found to contain a virus.
VMGuard Standalone works as a mailserver in its own right and can be used to replace an existing mailserver. As well scanning mail for viruses, it also provides a webmail facility to enable easy access to mail from any web-browser. Administration of mail accounts can be performed through an easy to use web-based interface. VMGuard Features

Flexible scanning VMGuard uses the award winning Kaspersky Anti Virus scanning engine. The virus signatures are updated daily to ensure maximum protection against the latest virus threats. In addition VMGuard can optionally be upgraded to use more than one virus scanner (Sophos, MacAfee, F-Secure etc).
As well as scanning for viruses, VMGuard can also block attachments based on criteria such as subject, attachment size, attachment type (filename extension) etc.
Webmail VMGuard Standalone allows mail to be accessed through any web-browser. The Webmail features include: address books, user defined folders, message filters, message highlighting, numerous display options, themes etc.
Mail Admin VMGuard Standalone provides an easy to use web-based interface for creating, editing and deleting mail accounts. With it, you can create aliases, set forwarding addresses, autoresponders, quotas etc.
